JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — A senior South African Cabinet member, Home Affairs Minister Stoffel Botha, said Wednesday he will retire from politics in September, when he turns 60.
Botha’s duties include supervising South Africa’s tough press laws, under which a number of publications have been suspended.
His retirement will coincide with South Africa’s next parliamentary election, in which the National Party is expected to retain the dominant position it has held since 1948.
