Prep Roundup : Lavelle Wins Three Events at Sea View League Track Final

Eddie Lavelle of Corona del Mar High School pulled off an impressive triple at the Sea View League track and field championships Friday at Rancho Santiago College.
Lavelle, a senior, won the 800 meters in 1 minute 56.6 seconds, the 1,600 in 4:25.7 and the 3,200 in 9:25.9.
Tanya Brix of University won the 1,600 in 5:09.9 and 3,200 in 11.29.6 to highlight the girls’ meet.
In the Freeway League boys’ finals:
Tom Philavong of Buena Park won the triple jump with a leap of 44-9 to lead the Coyotes to the meet title at Fullerton College.
Buena Park finished first with 138 2/3 points. Troy was second with 105.
In the Freeway League girls’ finals:
Shannon Bryant of Sonora won the 100-meter hurdles (45.42) and 300-meter hurdles (45.42) as the Raiders won the meet.
Sonora finished with 132 points. Fullerton was second with 116.
In Angelus League boys’ tennis:
Mater Dei 12, Servite 6--Dax Peterson, Mater Dei’s No. 1 singles player, swept his sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for Mater Dei (17-1, 12-0).
In Orange League boys’ tennis:
Valencia 14, Savanna 4--Steve Johnson swept his sets at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Valencia (16-4, 15-0) at Savanna.
Western 16, Magnolia 2--Ed Peregrino swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Western (16-4, 12-3) at Magnolia.
In Sea View League boys’ tennis:
Corona del Mar 17, Tustin 1--Ken Alston swept, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0, for Corona del Mar (10-0, 17-3) at Tustin.
Newport Harbor 17, Saddleback 1--Jamie Hardin of Newport Harbor swept his sets at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3, at Saddleback. Newport Harbor is 7-3 in league play. Saddleback is 7-10, 2-8.
In the Sunset League tennis championships:
Mike Mell of Fountain Valley won the league singles title, defeating Andy Stewart of Huntington Beach, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, at SeaCliff Racquet Club in Huntington Beach. Greg Moore and Dave Phillips of Edison won the doubles title over Brian Winterstein and Ryan Hasegawa of Fountain Valley, 6-2, 6-4.
In Empire League boys’ volleyball:
Esperanza 3, El Dorado 1--John Kane had nine kills and 16 assists to lead visiting Esperanza (12-4, 9-3) to a 16-14, 7-15, 15-2, 15-6 victory.
Los Alamitos 3, Santa Ana 0--Host Los Alamitos defeated Santa Ana, 18-16, 15-8, 15-6. Greg Sorensen had 15 kills for the Griffins (13-2, 10-2).
In Sea View League boys’ volleyball:
Corona del Mar 3, Tustin 0--Corona del Mar defeated Tustin, 15-2, 15-11, 15-7, at Tustin. Ty Price had 26 assists and John Hamilton 22 for Corona del Mar (12-2, 10-0). Tustin is 1-11, 1-9.
University 3, Estancia 0--Pat Farrell had 13 kills to lead to University, 15-4, 15-10, 15-8, at Estancia. University is 11-3, 7-3.
In South Coast League boys’ volleyball:
El Toro 3, Mission Viejo 0--Doug O’Brien had 16 kills as El Toro (13-2, 10-0) swept, 15-10, 15-13, 15-11.
