Marcos Backers Rally to Demand His Return
MANILA — Hundreds of supporters of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos staged a rally in Manila on Thursday to mark one year since the death of his still-unburied mother and to demand that Marcos be allowed to return.
Police in San Juan, a Manila suburb, said 2,000 pro-Marcos protesters marched to Marcos’ former home, where a Mass was celebrated in honor of his mother, Josefa Edralin-Marcos, who died May 4, 1988, at 95. Her family has refused to bury her until President Corazon Aquino allows Marcos to return from his Hawaiian exile to preside over the funeral.
