San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos began a tour of Asian businesses hoping to blaze a trail for small, but innovative, local companies to penetrate the booming markets of the Pacific Rim. “Not only is the Pacific Rim in the Bay Area, but the Bay Area is in the Pacific Rim,” said Agnos. Highlights of the four-nation Bay Area Economic Mission, as the tour is called, include a visit with President Lee Teng-hui of Taiwan. The group of dignitaries and about 80 business executives will also travel to Hong Kong, China and Japan.
