The Times Travel Section has again been awarded Best Newspaper Travel Section in the Fifth Annual Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition Awards. The competition drew a total of 883 entries from 195 publications and individuals. Judging was by the University of Missouri Journalism School under the direction of Prof. Don Ranly. Judges’ comments state: “The Times (Travel Section) uses its space wisely. It provides the basic data that should be in all travel sections such as currency exchange rates, world temperatures, etc. Beyond that, however, there is a breadth of content and a quality of writing that is unmatched in this category for its consistency. Readers are helped to take trips throughout California as well as throughout the United States and the world. Articles are both informative and entertaining. Information is almost always given for the reader to act on. This is a section that appeals to a wide range of travel interests in each section.”
