Community College Roundup : Saddleback Edges OCC for Golf Title

Kevin Goto shot an eight-over-par 152 as Saddleback College edged Orange Coast Monday in the Orange Empire Conference golf final at Warner Hot Springs Country Club.
Saddleback finished first with a score of 775, one stroke ahead of Orange Coast. Palomar was third (782), San Diego Mesa (796) fourth and Golden West (815) fifth.
Frank Pantoja of Orange Coast shot a four-over 148 to win the individual championship. Goto was fourth and teammate Bob Jacobson, who shot 154, was fifth.
Saddleback and Orange Coast advance to the Southern California regionals, which will be this weekend at the Singing Hills Country Club in San Diego.
In Orange Empire conference softball:
Fullerton 2, Cypress 0--Kristen Jacobs (28-8) pitched a two-hitter, striking out five, at Fullerton.
Orange Coast 2, Riverside 0--Niqua Monson (14-18) pitched a two-hitter for the Pirates (18-18, 5-11) at Orange Coast. Monson struck out nine. Wendy Robinson had two hits, two stolen bases and an RBI for the Pirates.
Saddleback 1, Golden West 0--Denise Kuhns pitched a one-hitter, striking out four, at Golden West. Kuhns allowed only a two-hit single in the fourth inning. The Gauchos scored in the third when Majorie Garcia hit a two-out triple and Kim Braatz followed with a single.
In nonconference softball:
Rancho Santiago 4, Pasadena 1 (8 innings)--LaTania Trotter had a three-run single in the top of the eighth for Rancho Santiago. Natalie Sanchez (21-16) pitched a five-hitter for the victory.
