Tosco Corp.: The Santa Monica-based independent oil refiner reported a net loss of $8 million for the first quarter, contrasted with net income of $13.5 million a year ago. Revenue totaled $274.7 million, down 4% from the 1988 quarter. The firm said the results reflected the heaviest scheduled maintenance period at its Avon Refinery in recent years.
