Hasbro Seeks to Buy Coleco: Hasbro Inc. announced a plan to buy most of the assets of Coleco Industries Inc., the troubled maker of Cabbage Patch dolls that is now in bankruptcy proceedings. John O’Neill, Hasbro’s chief financial officer, said the proposed transaction was valued at $90 million to $95 million. Hasbro, of Pawtucket, R.I., the nation’s largest toy maker, said it has an agreement with Coleco’s unsecured creditors’ committee to seek bankruptcy court permission to buy Coleco, which filed for Chapter 11 protection from its creditors in July, 1988.
