Ford Mexico Plant to Retool: The Ford Motor Co. assembly factory in Hermosillo will suspend operations for six months starting in August to retool for production of a new model car, the Mexico City newspaper La Jornada reported. The plant, which assembles the Tracer Mercury GT-18 for export to the United States and Canada, will convert its assembly lines to produce the Ford CT-20, auto workers union leader Dario Aguilar Tapia was quoted as saying. Production will increase from 32 to 40 vehicles per hour and average about 50,000 a year. The plant’s 1,200 workers will receive full salaries during the suspension.
