An overture for a National Hockey League expansion franchise, supposedly made on behalf of the Soviet Ice Hockey Federation, has been rejected.
Ramon Dacyshyn, executive vice president of Intercan Sports Inc., the agency that negotiated the release of Soviet player Sergei Priakin to the Calgary Flames last month, made the proposal to league president John Ziegler and NHL Players Assn. executive director Alan Eagleson last month.
Under the plan, which Dacyshyn said was made on behalf of the Soviets, a team exclusively with Soviet players would compete in the NHL.
