AUGUSTA, Ga. — Former Masters golf champion Gay Brewer Jr. was feeling better after an overnight stay in a hospital and was expected to be released on Saturday, tournament officials said today.
Brewer, 57, after completing the first round of the Masters Thursday, was taken to a hospital because of what was thought to be a heart problem. Brewer, a member of U.S. Ryder Cup teams in 1967 and 1971, won his Masters green jacket in 1967 after losing a playoff in the previous year against Jack Nicklaus.
