The crew of the shuttle Atlantis, scheduled to blast off around April 28, reviewed emergency escape procedures at the launch pad during a practice countdown set to end today with a simulated engine ignition. Cmdr. David Walker, 42, co-pilot Ronald Grabe, 41, Norman Thagard, 43, Mary Cleave, 41, and Mark Lee, 39, gathered at the Kennedy Space Center for the traditional countdown test, a milestone preceding any shuttle launch.
