The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences publicly apologized today to the Walt Disney Co. for using its Snow White character without permission in the opening number of the 61st annual Oscar show.
In response, Disney said it planned to settle its federal suit against the academy, after the producers of the Oscars agree in court not to use the segment of the broadcast nor its Snow White character again without permission.
The Oscars ceremony March 29 opened with singer-dancer Eileen Bowman portraying Snow White, the famous fairy tale character, in an elaborate song-and-dance routine.
