High School Baseball : Milligan, Lohman Provide Long Ball in Notre Dame Win

Kevin Milligan hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, his third home run of the season, to lift Notre Dame High to a 15-13 victory over Hawthorne in the first-round game of the Redondo-Palos Verdes tournament at Hawthorne on Saturday.
Milligan was three for three and scored four runs. Chris Lohman, whose single scored two runs before Milligan’s homer snapped a 10-10 tie, had three hits, including a three-run homer in the fourth. Bobby Hughes picked up the win in relief for Notre Dame (11-1).
In other Redondo-Palos Verdes tournament games:
Alemany 14, Faith Baptist 1--Brian Swanson and Leo Tejada each had three of the Indians’ 17 hits in the first-round game at Alemany.
Joey Rosselli, who batted for the first time since breaking a bone in his left hand before the season, had two hits, including a double. John Lite, Jeff Ordona, Mike Sims and Greg Thompson, the winning pitcher, also had two hits each.
Royal 11, Dorsey 6--Jason Jones hit a two-run home run to key a six-run Highlander rally in the sixth and Sean Swearinger added a three-run home run in the first-round game at Royal. Jones, who had three hits, homered and Bill Egan added a two-run double in the sixth as the Highlanders (6-9) broke open a 5-5 game.
Gilbert Renteria (3-0) allowed one hit and struck out three in two innings of relief to pick up the win.
Culver City 9, Thousand Oaks 8--Despite a solo home run by Lance Martin and a two-run shot by Mike McNellis, Thousand Oaks (4-5) dropped the first-round game at Culver City. Martin’s home run was his second in as many days.
El Segundo 12, Crespi 11--The Celts led, 11-9, in the bottom of the seventh, but El Segundo rallied in the first-round game at El Segundo.
Crespi, trailing 7-0, erupted for nine runs in the fourth. Mark Maurizi’s grand slam with one out gave the Celts a 9-7 advantage. Maurizi finished four for four. Chris Romero added a two-run home run.
Lincoln County (Nev.) 6, Highland Hall 1--Josh Hawkins was five for seven and Highland Hall won two out of three five-inning games Saturday to finish third in the 28-team Cactus Classic tournament in Mesquite, Nev.
