College Basketball Roundup : Oklahoma St. Bumps Off Missouri

Darwyn Alexander scored seven of his 17 points during a 14-2 run in the final three minutes, and Oklahoma State upset seventh-ranked Missouri, 82-71, Wednesday night in a Big Eight Conference game at Stillwater, Okla.

Missouri (22-6 overall, 8-3 in the Big Eight) took a 69-68 lead on Nathan Buntin’s basket with 5:45 left, but the Tigers didn’t make a field goal the rest of the way.

Missouri assistant coach Rich Daly, filling in for ailing Coach Norm Stewart, was assessed a technical foul with 3:45 left. Alexander made two free throws, giving the Cowboys (16-8, 7-4) the lead for good, and added a three-point shot to make it 73-69.

In the final minutes, the Tigers were called for the technical, an intentional foul and a flagrant foul, for which Mike Sandbothe was ejected from the game.

Oklahoma State is 14-0 at home, including a victory over top-ranked Oklahoma three weeks ago.

Oklahoma 86, Kansas State 82--Stacey King scored 23 points, including a three-point play with 1:01 left, to lead the top-ranked Sooners past the Wildcats in a Big Eight game at Norman, Okla.

Mookie Blalock added 19 points for Oklahoma (24-3, 10-1), which has won 28 straight games at home.

LaKeith Humphrey scored 24 points for Kansas State (16-8, 6-5).

Georgetown 76, Providence 74--Charles Smith scored 18 points, and the third-ranked Hoyas held off the Friars in a Big East Conference game at Landover, Md.

Providence (17-7, 6-7) came from eight points down to tie the score, 70-70, on two free throws by Cal Foster with 2:36 left, but Smith made a three-point play and fed Mark Tillmon for a layup following a steal to get Georgetown (21-3, 11-2) home free.

Louisville 96, S. Mississippi 83--Pervis Ellison scored all 20 of his points in the second half as the eighth-ranked Cardinals beat the Golden Eagles in a Metro Conference game at Louisville.

Kenny Payne also had 20 points for Louisville (19-6, 8-2), while Darin Chancellor had 28 points for Southern Mississippi (9-14, 2-8).

Iowa 89, Northwestern 84--Roy Marble scored 22 points, and B.J. Armstrong and Ed Horton had 21 each to help the No. 14 Hawkeyes beat the Wildcats at Evanston, Ill.

Armstrong made two three-pointers to start the second half, and Iowa (20-6, 8-5) pulled away.

Walker Lambiotte scored 22 points for the Wildcats (9-15, 21-2).

Ball State 73, Kent State 61--Greg Miller scored 20 points, and the No. 20 Cardinals rallied from a 12-point deficit to down the Golden Flashes in a Mid-American Conference game at Kent, Ohio.

Kent State (15-9, 8-5) took a 16-4 lead on Jim Mangapora’s three-point play with 13:07 left in the first half, but Ball State (22-2, 11-2) rallied with a 21-9 run.
