Serbia’s Parliament, ignoring the protests of ethnic Albanians, approved constitutional changes to curb the autonomy of Kosovo province. Reports from the Kosovo capital of Pristina said thousands of factory workers were on strike and that some of the protesters demanded the ouster of Serbian Communist Party boss Slobodan Milosevic. He has led a populist drive to impose Serbian control on Kosovo, ostensibly to protect the minority Serbs in the province from harassment by the ethnic Albanian majority. Serbia is the largest of Yugoslavia’s six provinces. The Parliament also approved constitutional changes to its other autonomous province, Vojvodina.
