A Slimmed Down Dailey Is Expected to Rejoin Clippers Today at Dallas
HOUSTON — Guard Quintin Dailey, the Clippers’ leading scorer who was suspended last Monday for excessive weight, is expected to rejoin the team today at Dallas and play in Tuesday night’s game against the Mavericks.
“It (the weight) is not where we want it to be yet, but the point has been made and he’s doing his part to work the rest off,” Coach Don Casey said.
Dailey, who came into camp at 193 pounds, has a weight clause in his contract and has been fined more than once this season. Last Monday, he weighed in at 229--an increase of 36 pounds--and was suspended.
Casey said Sunday that trainer Bernie LaReau, who has monitored Dailey’s progress in the past week, told him that Dailey was “under 212.”
Dailey, who was at Houston to meet with fellow player representatives, said: “I haven’t been happy with the situation the past couple days.
“It hasn’t been pleasant, because it makes everyone think I’ve got a real bad problem. But they did what they had to do, and I’m anxious to get back.”
