The mail escaped unscathed but a greater-alarm fire caused an estimated $10 million damage to structures, equipment and empty mail bags at the U.S. Postal Service’s bulk mail center in Richmond. About 150 postal employees were evacuated from the center as the predawn blaze began to spread. There were no reports of injury. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
