San Diego
A San Diego man who used a heavy rock to kill a pregnant woman was sentenced Thursday to 16 years in state prison.
Ricky Thompson, 26, was sentenced by San Diego Superior Court Judge Andrew Wagner for killing Sarah McLemore, 18, on April 30, 1987.
In Thompson’s murder trial, the jury on Nov. 7 deadlocked, 9 to 3, for conviction of murder. Rather than face a retrial, Thompson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Nov. 29.
The 8-month-old fetus also died when the mother died.
McLemore’s nude body was found on a San Diego Trolley overpass near 32nd and Commercial streets. The motive for the slaying remains a mystery.
