In other City Western League boys’ games:
Kearny 62, Clairemont 60--Kearny (10-9, 2-2) made 10 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter, including Tom Rawlins’ pair with 9 seconds left to give the Komets a 62-58 lead, in the come-from-behind victory over visiting Clairemont (9-12, 1-3).
Kearny’s Andre White scored a game-high 24 points, and Danny Johnson scored 12 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter. But Kearny Coach Bill Peterson said the ball-handling of point guard Harvey Hardwick (seven assists in the second half) made the difference against Clairemont’s full-court press.
“He has only played in 7 or 8 games this year, and he’s been bugging me to give him a chance,” Peterson said. “Finally in the second half, I said, ‘Go get ‘em Harvey.’ And he really came through. He’ll play a lot more from now on.”
Mission Bay 64, USDHS 57--Keith Berkley scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds and visiting Mission Bay (10-6, 2-2) made 13 of 19 shots (67%) in the second half. Peter Ellis had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Anthony Massa added 20 points for USDHS (8-7, 1-3).
City Eastern League
Madison 76, Serra 65--Robby Robinson scored 29 points and grabbed 23 rebounds to lead host Madison (11-8, 3-1). Brad Eaddy added 18 points and 17 rebounds for Madison, which led, 50-32, at halftime. Keith LaDue and Jermaine Jordan scored 16 points apiece for Serra (10-7, 2-2).
Patrick Henry 57, Mira Mesa 45--Terrence Hamilton had 19 points and Jason Lonsdale 15 for Patrick Henry (9-8, 2-2), which took a 29-19 halftime lead. Marc Ziegler led Mira Mesa (4-15, 0-2) with 19 points.
Morse 51, Point Loma 49--Darryl Lewis’ 3-point play with 2 seconds remaining lifted host Morse (7-9, 3-1). Lawrence Mothershed missed a shot with 7 seconds left for Morse, but Lewis rebounded and made the follow before being fouled. Lewis had 19 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. Beau Pack had 14 points for No. 10 Point Loma (10-9 and 2-2).
City Central League
Lincoln 99, Christian 75--Joe Temple scored 32 points, had 17 rebounds and made 13 steals to lead host Lincoln (19-1, 4-0). Aaron Wilhite added 22 points and 12 rebounds, and John McCartney had 19 points for Lincoln, which led, 46-42, at halftime. David Jeremiah led Christian (9-7, 2-2) with 30 points, including five 3-pointers.
Southern Conference Coastal League
Bishop’s 66, Julian 21--Bishop’s held Julian to fewer than 10 points in each quarter at Bishop’s. Bishop’s (14-1, 6-0) had quarter leads of 10-4, 22-8 and 34-14 before outscoring Julian, 22-7, in the final period. Brian Aalbers led Bishop’s with 14 points.
Grossmont League 3A
Granite Hills 63, El Capitan 41--Granite Hills’ Heath Beason was 8 of 10 shots to lead all scorers with 20. John Russell added 19 for Granite Hills (13-6, 3-2). El Capitan scored just six points in the fourth quarter.
Nonleague
Helix 73, Grossmont 48--John Pressler scored 27 points and Rich Haar 16 points for Helix (12-5, 4-1). Kevin Simon had 15 points for Grossmont.
Monte Vista 51, Santana 48--Bren Jacobsen made both ends of a 1-and-1 with 13 seconds left to seal the victory. Joe McNaull, with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Jacobsen, with 13 points and 11 rebounds, led Monte Vista (9-4, 4-0). Santana was led by Matt Panebianco with 15 points. The Sultans dropped to 11-6, 3-2.
Girls’ basketball
City Central League
San Diego 50, Crawford 35--Melanie Covey scored 17 points and Nene Hilbert scored 13 and had 12 rebounds for San Diego (6-10, 2-2). Stephanie Livingston, Crawford’s leading scorer with 12 points, fouled out in the second half. Crawford is 5-12, 1-3.
Our Lady of Peace 58, Hoover 22--Tammy Tavares scored 16 points, April Velk 12 and Deanna Beauparlint 10 for OLP (14-4, 4-0).
Lincoln 66, Christian 38--Sophomore Sheila Dixon scored 29 points to lead visiting Lincoln (12-4, 3-1). Kendle Clarke had 13 for Christian (8-7, 2-2).
Avocado League
Oceanside 49, El Camino 30--Seventh-ranked Oceanside (13-6, 6-1) was losing at halftime, 20-16, but found its shooting touch in the second half behind a game-high 25 points from Mildred Conston and 12 from Kecha Fowlkes. El Camino (3-10, 2-5) was led by Katie Shankle-Chriss and Heather Cochran with 9 points apiece.
Rancho Buena Vista 64, San Pasqual 55--Shawna Edge scored 26 points and had 15 rebounds and Jenny Fellars scored 13 for Rancho Buena Vista (4-3). RBV held San Pasqual’s leading scorer, Nikki Gannon (30 points), to one 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. San Pasqual is 2-5.
San Marcos 45, Ramona 34--Susie O’Brien scored 10 of her 25 points in the third quarter for San Marcos (7-0). Ramona is 5-2.
City Eastern League
Point Loma 74, Morse 30--Monica Filer (25), Tyeast Brown (16) and Chris Drumm (13) combined for 54 of Point Loma’s points as the top-ranked Pointers improved to 20-1, 4-0. For Morse (9-11, 1-3), Mulu Tosi had 7 points.
Serra 32, Madison 29--Madison led, 15-5, at halftime, but host Serra outscored Madison, 27-14, in the second half. Lynn Thoms had 12 points for Serra (4-13, 1-3). Sandy McEvoy of Madison (5-14, 0-4) had 12 points.
Grossmont Conference
Helix 37 Grossmont 34--Helix led, 25-20, at halftime and held on for the victory. Julie O’Neal’s 17 points paced Helix (7-7, 5-1). Grossmont (5-12, 0-5) was led by Christina Adams, who scored a game-high 18.
Mt. Miguel 56, El Cajon Valley 53--At Mt. Miguel, Tonya Chamberlain led the home team with 20 points. Ronda Moore and Jolinda Bone added 15 and 10 points for Mt. Miguel. El Cajon
