Aart Brouwer has been named vice president for European operations for Amgen, the Thousand Oaks-based biotechnology company. Brouwer, 49, was formerly vice president of product development at Smith Kline & French Laboratories.
Brouwer, who is a native of the Netherlands, will head Amgen’s European operation for the company’s forthcoming drug G-CSF, which triggers the production of white blood cells. The company hopes to file for European and U.S. approval of the drug this year.
Amgen’s first commercial drug, EPO, used to treat anemia, is expected to be approved for sale in the United States this year.
