Burlington Northern Inc. reported a 1988 profit of $156 million, down 62% from the previous year. Revenue rose to $4.7 billion, a gain of 11%. The firm posted a fourth-quarter loss of $21 million, which it attributed to an extraordinary loss of $108.5 million from the settlement of antitrust litigation. The Ft. Worth-based holding company for transportation resources and railroad operations had a profit of $109 million in the year-ago period.
