Events in the news this week.
Three reputed “skinheads” convicted of felony assault in the beating of 48-year-old Robert T. Joyce last summer are scheduled for sentencing Friday in Orange County Superior Court. Stephen Walther, 18, John M. Moore, 23, and Aaron F. Compean, 18, were convicted in the unprovoked attack in which they approached Joyce, a stranger, in a Laguna Beach park and beat him with their fists and a metal pipe. Walther has said in an interview that he and his friends went to the park expressly to beat up a gay man.
