Iranian Desert Gets 1st Snow in 50 Years

NICOSIA, Cyprus — Snow has fallen on the desert regions of Khur and Biyabanak in eastern Iran for the first time in 50 years, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported Thursday.
Officials said 4 inches of snow had fallen in the last 24 hours, forcing schools to close, IRNA reported. Northern areas of the Middle East have been gripped by unusually cold weather for the last week.
