Jeff Tarango and Lisa Green of Stanford are the top-seeded singles players in the National Collegiate tennis tournament to be played today through Sunday at Shadow Mountain Resort in Palm Desert.
The event is one of the first major invitational college tournaments of the season. The players are from 8 men’s and women’s teams ranked among the highest in the 1988-89 preseason rankings.
Tarango, from Manhattan Beach, played in the Volvo/Los Angeles tournament and lost to Kevin Curren, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. Brian Garrow of UCLA is seeded second, John Kjellstein of LSU third.
Robbie Weiss of Pepperdine and Eleni Rossides of Stanford won the tournament’s singles titles last year.
