Vietnam, hoping to improve relations with former enemies, has amended its 1980 constitution to delete such references as “American imperialists” and “Chinese hegemonist aggressors,” the Vietnam News Agency reported. The agency said the changes were officially approved by the National Assembly on Dec. 22. Among the 13 sentences revised in the four-page preamble, the names of four countries--the United States, China, France and Japan--have been deleted, and references to Vietnam’s recent history now are phrased in general terms.
