More cartoon music: Alan Menken and Howard Ashman (who penned the tunes for “Little Shop of Horrors”) have written seven original songs for “The Little Mermaid,” Disney’s next animated feature, based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen. The vocal cast includes Pat Carroll, Andrew Stevens and Broadway actress Jody Benson. About two-thirds of the animation has been completed on the film, which is due out for Christmas ’89.
