I dug your article on rock bands working for worthy causes (“Rock ‘n’ Responsibility,” by Robert Hilburn, Dec. 18), but how could you not even mention the Grateful Dead and their efforts to help save the rain forests? The Dead recently headlined a sold-out benefit concert at Madison Square Garden and they’ve been spreading the word via television and publications.
If the rain forests disappear, the human race disappears, and it took the Grateful Dead to point that out to rock audiences.
