GEFFEN: The PMRC blasted their album cover. Record chains refused to carry their records. The furor didn’t slow Guns N’ Roses sales blitzkrieg which found the raucous bad-boys selling 6 million albums--and even landing a No. 1 single. Aerosmith’s 1987 “Permanent Vacation” also took up permanent residence in the Top 30, Robbie Robertson’s first solo album went gold and Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians surprised industry skeptics by going Top 20. The label was riding such a wave that it even salvaged Cher’s moribund pop career, giving her a gold album and back-to-back Top 15 hits. The big disappointment: Jimmy Page, whose “Outrider” album was panned by critics and never made the Top 25.
