When we heard that film maker David Lynch was considering tackling Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis,” our hearts skipped several beats. The man who directed “Elephant Man” and “Blue Velvet” doing the one about the salesman who awakens one morning to discover that he’s a cockroach! It sounded perfect!
But, alas, it won’t happen.
The cost of creating a realistic gigantic cockroach would have been “well in excess” of $1 million, reports a Lynch associate. And, a rep for Lynch says, even then there would be “no guarantee that the bug would turn out to David’s satisfaction.” Anyway, “he didn’t want something inferior or fake looking.”
