17 Inmates Injured in Jail Bus-Van Collision
A bus carrying 19 Los Angeles County jail inmates collided with a moving van in Santa Clarita on Thursday, injuring 17 of the occupants, none of them seriously, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 7:10 p.m. at the rain-slick intersection of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway, said Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Springs.
All of the injuries were listed as minor, said county fire spokesman Bob Goldman.
The bus had made pickups at several sheriff’s substations and was on its way to the downtown County Jail, Springs said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, but it is believed to be rain-related, authorities said.
