Local News in Brief : Woman, Mother Held in Infant’s Death
An Altadena woman and her mother were booked on suspicion of murder Thursday after sheriff’s deputies found a dead newborn infant in the family’s back yard, authorities said.
Cecelia Patterson, 44, called paramedics to her home in the 200 block of Mariposa Street early Thursday to report that her daughter, Ann Marie St. Cyr, 20, was hemorrhaging, deputies said.
After physicians at Huntington Memorial Hospital examined St. Cyr, they told deputies that she had given birth within the past 12 hours, investigators said.
Deputies said investigators returned to the home, were given permission by Patterson to conduct a search and saw the dead male infant in the yard when they looked out a bathroom window.
Both women were arrested because of conflicting information they gave to deputies, investigators said. An autopsy is scheduled to determine if the baby was alive at the time of delivery, deputies said.
