Lichti and Wright Help Stanford Beat Oregon State, 87-59, in Pacific 10 Opener
STANFORD — Todd Lichti scored 22 points and Howard Wright added 17 Saturday night to lead Stanford to an 87-59 victory over Oregon State in a Pacific 10 Conference basketball opener.
Stanford held a 19-15 lead midway through the first half, then outscored the Beavers, 16-4, in the next 5 minutes to take a 35-19 lead. Guard Terry Taylor hit 2 3-point field goals during the run.
Wright got Stanford off fast in the second half when the Cardinal outscored the Beavers, 14-3, in the first 4:30. Wright had 3 field goals and a free throw in that stretch.
Stanford put the game away midway through the second half when Lichti sank a 3-point field goal and a 2-pointer and Eric Reveno added a field goal to make it 60-36.
The leading scorer for OSU was Gary Payton with 20 points, 14 in the first half.
Stanford’s record is 5-2, while OSU is 3-2.
