Youth Dies From Shots in Gang Fight
A 16-year-old youth, who was wounded Friday at a shopping mall when two gunshots were fired in a gang argument, died Saturday afternoon.
Sergio Alpuche, an 11th grader at Birmingham High School, died at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
Alpuche was standing nearby when two gang members began arguing at the Panorama City Mall. One drew a gun and fired twice, striking the teen-ager in the head, police said.
On Friday night, a reputed gang member, strolling with a girlfriend, was fatally shot by rivals in the Athens area, about 10 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Hom said.
Two carloads of gang members shouted gang slogans before opening fire, hitting Terrance Carl Kennedy, 27, three times, Hom said. The girlfriend was unharmed.
