The Orange County coroner’s office Friday identified Darren M. Gaspard, 24, as the jogger struck and killed by a car Thursday evening on Culver Drive in Irvine.
Gaspard, a UC Irvine student, was running in the bicycle lane on Culver just south of Campus Drive when he was struck from behind by a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit driven by Christine Ann Grange, 38, of Laguna Beach, police said.
Irvine Police Lt. Al Muir said Grange had been drinking.
Grange was treated at Health Care Center in Tustin for minor cuts and arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving. She was being held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. The results of a blood test to determine the level of alcohol in her blood will be available in a week or two, Muir said.
