Greg Willig, St. Paul High School’s 6-foot-6 senior quarterback, is The Times’ Southeast prep Back of the Year.
Willig completed 132 of 253 passes for 1,739 yards, leading the Swordsmen to a playoff berth. He was the most valuable offensive player in the Angelus League.
Lineman of the Year is David Ramos of Bell Gardens, and his coach, Dave Newell, is Coach of the Year.
They were honored Sunday at the 30th annual Times all-star football awrds brunch in the Anaheim Hilton.
The powerful 6-3, 255-pound Ramos was such an effective blocker that 80% of the Lancers’ running plays were in his direction.
Under Newell, the Lancers were 11-1, undefeated until they lost to Claremont in the CIF playoff quarterfinals.
In the South Coast area, Johnny Robinson of Jordan is Back of the Year, Michael Loyola of Poly is Lineman of the Year and Ken Sutch of Paramount is Coach of the Year.
