SAN DIEGO ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS
The San Diego Symphony will perform a free concert for the homeless at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 23 in the plaza of Civic Center downtown. Matthew Garbutt, former resident conductor of the symphony’s Summer Pops series, will conduct about 50 orchestra members in a program of holiday favorites such as “Sleigh Ride” and “Winter Wonderland.” The players have donated their time for both the performance and its rehearsal. Trumpet player Mark Bedell suggested the project and the time of the performance, which is immediately before the opening of Golden Hall to the homeless Dec. 23-26.
