Hooray for Olliewood!
Didn’t get enough Ollie during the televised Iran-Contra hearings? Well, hang on! Ben Bradlee Jr.’s “Guts and Glory: The Rise and Fall of Oliver North” may be headed for a four-hour mini-series.
No stars are attached yet, according to exec producer-writer-director Mike Robe, who optioned the book. But deep negotiations are under way with CBS. “And when they’re finalized, we begin to cast. Scripts have already been sent to some casting people around town.”
According to a source, the mini-series--as in the Bradlee book--will probably depict the obsessive North as a fall guy used to protect President Reagan; wife Betsy North will be featured (“attractive but not ravishing,” goes a casting description we glimpsed); ditto secretary Fawn Hall (“hair like a lioness”), and all the big politicos.
Robe said we’ll see the elements of Ollie’s life that led him to his place in history--but not a repeat of the hearings themselves.
