Craig Dorval, a 10-year veteran of KPBS-FM (89.5), a nonprofit public broadcast station, was named station manager Thursday. Dorval, 34, is only the second manager in KPBS’ history, and replaces Tom McManus, who retired in August after 20 years.
Dorval had been program director for the station’s classical music format since 1981 and acting station manager since August.
Dorval has a degree in journalism-communications and psychology from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. Before coming to San Diego, he was a producer, announcer and news reporter at WBHM in Birmingham, Ala.
“I hope to bring more of an openness, and innovation and adventure to the station,” Dorval said. “I think a lot of people come to us for innovation and exciting things. We do an awful lot of those things now. I hope to do more.”
