The UCLA women’s basketball team ended its first trip without a victory Saturday, when the University of Cincinnati beat the Bruins, 59-57, in the consolation game at the Hall of Fame tournament in Cincinnati.
The Bruins’ game plan changed when freshman center Molly Tideback got into foul trouble early and fouled out with 7 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Tideback, who had 2 fouls 6 minutes into the first quarter, scored 6 points and only played 11 minutes.
However, Tideback’s backup, senior Dana Childs, scored 12 points. Forward Michele Wootton was the Bruins’ leading scorer with 14.
Cincinnati went on a 13-0 run to take a 46-33 lead early in the second half. But in the final 2 minutes, UCLA scored 8 straight points to tie the score, 53-53. But Cincinnati took advantage of 3 UCLA fouls in the final minute to take a 6-point lead, and the Bruins, who added 4 points by Wootton, came up short.
UCLA (0-2) will play at Loyola Marymount on Friday night.
