Pakistani President Ghulam Ishaq Khan met with opposition leader Benazir Bhutto and later with Mian Nawaz Sharif, head of a government-backed political alliance, to discuss formation of a new government after last week’s inconclusive election. Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party won the most seats in the National Assembly but not a majority. Bhutto did not comment on her meeting with Ishaq Khan in Islamabad and said she will make a statement today.
