A $250,000 fire at a Garden Grove office building was deliberately set, authorities announced Sunday, one day after extinguishing the blaze.

“Fire investigators ruled the fire as definitely arson,” Battalion Chief Vince Bonacker of the Garden Grove Fire Department said. He said he could not comment on a possible motive at this point.

The fire, reported about 1:38 a.m. Saturday, “did a lot of damage” to the second-story offices of JAL Marketing, at 13139 Harbor Blvd., Saturday, Bonacker said.

No one was in the building and no one was injured, he said. But the offices of a financial company on the first floor suffered heavy water damage.

The fire remains under investigation, but authorities expect a development before Thanksgiving, Bonacker said.
