HARTFORD — Vice President George Bush won Connecticut’s eight electoral votes while maverick Republican Sen. Lowell P. Weicker Jr. narrowly lost the fight of his political career and Democrats solidified their hold on the Senate.
Weicker, whose career has been built on support from an unusual coalition of Republicans and moderate Democrats, was ambushed by state Atty. Gen. Joseph L. Lieberman, with Democrat Lieberman the winner.
With 99% of the votes counted, both had a statistical 50% of the tally: Lieberman, 664,995, and Weicker, 658,219.
