Vatican Names Bishop

VATICAN CITY — Pope John Paul II has named Edward Egan, an auxiliary bishop in the New York archdiocese, as bishop in the Bridgeport, Conn., diocese, the Vatican announced Tuesday. Egan, 56, fills the post left vacant by Bishop Walter Curtis, who retired in June after reaching the Vatican’s mandatory retirement age of 75.
