The World : China Neutron Bomb Told
China is believed to have successfully detonated its first neutron bomb, a high-radiation nuclear device designed to kill enemy personnel while sparing nearby areas from devastation by the explosion, according to Chinese and Western sources. The test would make China the fourth nation to have developed the neutron bomb. The United States, France and the Soviet Union already have successfully tested the weapon. Chinese sources said the nuclear test was conducted underground in China’s western Xinjiang province during the last week of September. Xinjiang is the home of China’s nuclear weapons testing site at Lop Nor, in a remote region in the Taklamakan Desert.
