TOKYO — A Palestinian leader told Foreign Minister Sosuke Uno on Monday that Japan, by exerting influence on the United States, could help bring peace to the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said.
Uno said in a meeting with Farouk Kaddoumi, head of the political department of the Palestine Liberation Organization, that Japan would support efforts for an international conference on the future of the occupied territories.
Kaddoumi said the territories should be administered by the United Nations in order to stop violence there, according to the spokesman.
Kaddoumi arrived here Sunday for a five-day visit.
