Ellis, Cage, McDaniel Lead SuperSonics to 125-91 Victory Over Error-Prone Clippers
SPOKANE, Wash. — Dale Ellis scored a team-high 24 points as the Seattle SuperSonics beat the Clippers, 125-91, in a National Basketball Assn. exhibition game Friday night.
Ellis hit just 9 of 24 field-goal attempts, but he managed to lead seven Seattle players in double figures.
Michael Cage, last season’s rebounding leader who came to the SuperSonics from the Clippers in a draft-day trade, scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Clippers led, 21-20, after the first quarter, but the SuperSonics charged to a 55-35 halftime lead as Xavier McDaniel scored 12 of his 18 points in the first half. Seattle built its lead to 87-53 late in the third quarter.
Clipper rookie forward Charles Smith from the University of Pittsburgh led all players with 28 points, 19 in the second half.
Gary Grant, a rookie guard from Michigan, had 8 points but committed 10 of the Clippers’ 31 turnovers.
