PREP FOOTBALL : Orange League Roundup : Anaheim Rallies to Win, 16-12

Anaheim High School inched closer to a Division 6 playoff berth with a come-from-behind 16-12 victory over Brea-Olinda Friday night in a Orange League game at Glover Stadium.

“We had to win tonight,” Anaheim Coach Ted Mullen said. “A victory puts us in a good position with the playoffs just around the corner.”

The victory improves Anaheim’s record to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. The loss was the fourth in a row for Brea-Olinda (1-7, 0-3).

Anaheim trailed, 12-9, when John Mountain scored on an 8-yard run with 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Mountain, a transfer from Foothill High School, rushed for 105 yards in 19 carries to pace the Anaheim offense.

The Colonists scored on their first series from scrimmage, with Justin Wons’ 20-yard touchdown run capping a 7-play drive. Art Palamares missed the extra point and Anaheim led, 6-0.

Brea-Olinda was led by running back Eddie Stewart, who caught 2 touchdown passes. The first came with 8:26 remaining in the second quarter on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Chad Marlow, tying the score at 6-6. Chase Gamble missed the extra point that would have put Brea-Olinda in the lead. Stewart’s second touchdown catch came on a reverse-option pass from Marc Shaw, giving the Wildcats a 12-9 lead with 4:29 remaining in the third quarter.

Marlow completed 14 of 23 passes for 157 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception for Brea-Olinda. Stewart added 29 yards on 11 carries to pace the Wildcat rushing attack.

In another Orange League game:

Western 20, Magnolia 0--Don Norris scored on runs of 11 and 12 yards to lead Western to a victory at Handel Stadium. Norris’ touchdowns came in the first and third quarters before Western (3-0, 4-4) scored in the fourth quarter on a 40-yard pass from quarterback Miles Roberson to Gilbert Brito. Brito also kicked two extra points.

Magnolia is 3-4-1, 1-2.
