HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : Southern Section Roundup : Agoura Overcomes Calabasas With Torrid 4th Quarter, 36-29

Agoura capped a 22-point fourth quarter with a 1-yard scoring sneak by quarterback Josh Smaler with 1:07 to play to record a 36-29 victory over Calabasas in a Frontier League game Friday night at Agoura.

Calabasas running back Mike Webb tied the score, 29-29, with 7 minutes left on a 25-yard touchdown run--his fourth touchdown of the game--but the Chargers blocked Todd Eichner’s point-after attempt.

Webb, a senior, returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and had a game-high 141 yards in 21 carries.

Calabasas (1-7, 0-3 in league play) went into halftime with a 23-14 lead, but Agoura scored touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs of 1 and 2 yards by Carrick O’Quinn.

Webb scored from 3 yards with 52 seconds left in the half, and, after an interception by Bob Rajewski of Calabasas, Bennett Fisher kicked a 25-yard field goal.

Agoura’s running game dominated the second half and the Chargers finished with 315 yards rushing. Dave Caramanis rushed for 108 yards in 17 carries for Agoura (5-2-1, 2-1).

O’Quinn carried 13 times for 86 yards and teammate Zac Miller rushed 11 times for 46 yards and had a 1-yard touchdown. Smaler, a junior, carried 5 times for 72 yards.

Calabasas quarterback David Kalman completed 9 of 19 passes for 87 yards and threw 2 interceptions.

Nicole Donahue, escorted by father and UCLA football Coach Terry Donahue, was crowned homecoming queen at halftime.
