Knight-Ridder Inc.’s third-quarter profit dipped 4.3% from a year ago to $31.9 million. Revenue rose 5.8% to $503.1 million. (The revenue figure excludes broadcast operations since Knight-Ridder announced its intention to sell its eight TV stations.) The Miami-based owner of newspapers, information services and television stations said the results reflect a disappointing 3.2% revenue increase from its newspapers to $461.9 million due to weaker retail and general advertising.
